The Pyres of Armageddon

The second Yarrick novel depicts the Second War for Armageddon, as Commissar Sebastian Yarrick leads the desperate defense of the hive world against the largest Ork invasion in centuries, led by the warlord Ghazghkull Thraka. Hampered at every turn by Armageddon's corrupt and self-serving Overlord, Yarrick must hold the line through sheer will, forging the legend that will define him. It is a brutal account of the campaign that turned a commissar into a living hero of the Imperium.
